AKC OBEDIENCE AND RALLY-O

Although Caucasian Shepherds are not known for their obedience, the behaviors learned in obedience are building blocks for many other dog sports. As well, the lower level obedience titles, as well as many of the rally titles, can be attained with most CSDs

Obedience

Obedience is a formal sport, with very little speaking to your dog allowed. Because of this, the sport really showcases your bond with your dog. Obedience requires your dog to pick up on subtle body cues for executing various turns, as commands for turning are prohibited.

Common Obedience Titles:

  • Beginner Novice (BN) — The letters BN may be added after a dog’s name when it has been certified by 2 different judges to have received qualifying scores in Beginner Novice classes at 3 licensed or member obedience trials. This is an optional class.
  • Companion Dog (CD) — The letters CD may be added after a dog’s registered name when it has been certified by 2 different judges as receiving qualifying scores in Novice classes at three licensed or member obedience trials.
  • Companion Dog Excellent (CDX) — The letters CDX may be added after a dog’s registered name after it has been certified by 2 different judges as receiving qualifying scores in Open classes at three licensed or member obedience trials. Requires CD
  • Utility Dog (UD) — The letters UD may be added after a dog’s registered name after it has been certified by 2 different judges as receiving qualifying scores in Utility classes at three licensed or member obedience trials. Requires CDX
  • Utility Dog Excellent (UDX) — Dogs with UD titles must earn qualifying scores in both Open B and Utility B at 10 trials in order to add the UDX title after their registered names. Requires UD

Rally Obedience

Rally is much more relaxed than traditional obedience, allowing you to talk to and encourage your dog as you navigated a course laid out with signs telling you what to do when you get there. This is a great sport to have fun with your dog in.

Common Rally Titles:

  • AKC Rally® Novice (RN) — The letters RN may be added after a dog’s name when it has been certified by 2 different judges to have received qualifying scores in Novice classes at 3 licensed or member rally trials.
  • AKC Rally® Intermediate (RI) — The letters RI may be added after a dog’s name when it has been certified by 2 different judges to have received qualifying scores in the Intermediate class at 3 licensed or member rally trials. Requires RN
  • AKC Rally® Advanced (RA) — The letters RA may be added after a dog’s name when it has been certified by 2 different judges to have received qualifying scores in Advanced classes at 3 licensed or member rally trials. Requires RN
  • AKC Rally® Advanced Excellent (RAE) — To earn an RAE title, the dog must have earned qualifying scores in both Advanced B and Excellent B classes at 10 separate licensed or member rally trials. A numeric designation will indicate the number of times the dog has met the RAE requirements, i.e. RAE2, RAE3, etc. Requires RA
